Marvin R. Knoploh, 80, of Sumner, Iowa, died Sunday morning, September 9, 2012 at Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sumner. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be directed in his name to Palmer Hospice, Sumner or St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner.
Marvin Ray Knoploh was born June 6, 1932, at the family farm south of Sumner, Iowa, the son of John and Lydia (Sell) Knoploh. He was Baptized June 19, 1932 and Confirmed April 14, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. He attended elementary school at Buck Creek and graduated from Sumner High School in 1950. On May 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Verlaine Hartman at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. After high school Marv worked for area farmers as a hired man and also at Rath Packing Company until he started farming on his own. Marv and Verlaine farmed in the Sumner area until retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Marvin took great pride in farming, especially together with his son, Ron, until Ron’s death on November 7, 1998. He loved sports and played shortstop for many years on Fredericka’s Fast Pitch Team along with 8 other faithful players. He and Verlaine enjoyed dancing at the Riviera Ballroom in Janesville. He cherished his time with Verlaine, his children and grandchildren. Marv was very family oriented and his grandchildren were a “Big Deal”.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Verlaine Knoploh of Sumner, Iowa; 2 daughters, Julie (John) Kleman of Sumner, Iowa and Kathy (Dan) Dahlen of Bloomington, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Amy (Bruce) Kammeyer of Tripoli, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Kristen Dahlen, Patrick Kleman, Kyle Kleman, Kari Dahlen and Reece Knoploh; 3 step-grandchildren, Melissa Kleman, Bobby (Shelli) Kleman and Riley Kammeyer; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Brickman of Oelwein, Iowa, Elaine Wedemeier of Maynard, Iowa and Velda (James) Hagenow of Readlyn, Iowa; 3 Brothers, Henry (Virginia) Knoploh of Ames, Iowa, Lloyd (Bev) Knoploh of Faribault, Minnesota and Eldon (Jean) Knoploh of Oelwein, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law, Glenyce (Forrest) Bolte of Vinton, Iowa, Elaine (Gene) Perkins of Britt, Iowa and Wilma Franzen of Waverly, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Knoploh; and brothers-in-law, Duane Wedemeier, Roger Boeckman, Bob Sievers and Carey Franzen.
